The State Workers will play at Arlene’s Grocery at 8PM, August 13. There’ll be new songs, new foods, new and old friends, as well as cold PBR. Get it in yer soul!

We played July 25th in Brooklyn at the Bushwick Starr. It was uaaaaaafffff! HiiiYA!!, joined later by Pass Kontrol, Lady Magma,
and Buffie Gilbert (whose Simonesque “Don’t let me be misunderstood” held a roomful of semiraucous hipsters in thrall, rightly so)
The folks who lit it up were shooting for it to “be a classic”, which I suppose meant the freak flags were meant to be flown. They pretty much flew.

Some not too unusual issues exist with the lovely vehicle, even as we plan it’s miraculous transmogrification. To wit:
The heater core is missing.
See lovely tubes, gaping, not attached to anything visible.
That is the part which takes nice hot water (coolant/antifreeze) from the radiator (first thing a car has behind the grill & hood ornament), and passes it through, where it robs the heat and returns it to the radiator for more warmth.
The heat gets blown into the comfy place from whence folks usually navigate and direct the vehicle.
So that is missing, and now when I hit the fan on a cold day, it gets colder.
not crucial for the WVO mission, but something to be rectified, nonetheless…
Welcome to the crash course in WVO!
That is Waste Vegetable Oil, usually a code word that immediately invokes the whole practice of regularly using cooking oil to fuel your car or truck instead of diesel.
That I know of, if you want to burn WVO, you must begin with a vehicle that ran on diesel, not gasoline- there is a big difference.
Specifically, the car we will be slowly converting is an oldie but goodie: 1982 Mercedes Benz 300D. Her name is Foo, with an inital odometer reading of 116,000 miles and a few issues common to the breed, issues which we will identify and resolve in these pages.
So. The adventure begins!
